12,000-foot plunge raises awareness about mental health support

Britt Lord took a 12,000-feet leap of faith to raise awareness for the everyday challenges many people face every day

A Brisbane love notes business founder joined five other brave advocates leaping from a plane in a tandem skydive organised to promote a positive message about mental health in August.

CEO Rob Libeau of The Noledge House, the charity which led the awareness campaign, said: “Every person who jumped today experienced a moment where they had to trust someone else, let go of fear and take a leap into the unknown.”

“That experience reflects the reality faced by so many people in our community.

“Whether you’re navigating mental health challenges, living with disability, caring for a loved one or overcoming personal hardship, growth often begins when someone stands beside you and reminds you that you don’t have to do it alone,” Mr Libeau said.

One of the skydivers, Britt Lord, is the founder of Healing with Love Notes based in South Brisbane.

Ms Lord’s business sells notes with supportive messages which can be shared with loved ones, friends and colleagues, with proceeds from each sale going to charity partners The Noledge House, Mito Foundation and Beyond Blue.

She took part in the community awareness campaign designed to demonstrate a simple but important message: “Conquering fear is achievable when you have the right support around you.”

The public display of facing their fears was organised to mirror the challenges many people face every day with mental health struggles, disability, and personal hardship.

The stunt was organised in the leadup to the Black Tie & Slippers Charity Gala and Fundraiser hosted at The Tivoli in October.

The gala is dedicated to celebrating resilience, advocacy, meaningful connection and the often-unseen work of Queensland’s mental health, disability and community sector organisations while raising awareness and support for vital grassroots initiatives.

Just as the skydiving campaign’s participants stepped out of their comfort zones at 12,000 feet, the Gala encourages conversations that challenge stigma, build understanding and create stronger community connections.

A key feature of this year’s gala is the theme Path to Possibility, a symbolic journey representing the steps individuals take toward hope, recovery, inclusion and personal growth.

Businesses and community-minded organisations are invited to become part of that journey by sponsoring a step on the Path to Possibility and publicly demonstrating their commitment to creating stronger, more connected communities.

Businesses interested in sponsoring a step on the Path to Possibility are encouraged to contact Rob at grow@thenoledgehouse.org.

Early Bird tickets for the gala on October 24 are available now at events.humanitix.com/black-tie-and-slippers-gala-dinner.
