Brothers Rugby Club has secured a $4 million commitment to fund stages three and four of their upgrades at Crosby Park in Albion from the LNP if they are elected this month.
LNP Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls said: “Community sport plays an important role in healthy and connected communities and our $4 million contribution to the Crosby Park Sports Precinct will underpin delivery of new universal dressing sheds, administration offices, food and beverage operations, function rooms, a gym, spectator seating/viewing platforms and improved car parking.”
“The Crosby Park upgrade will cater for the ever-increasing number of female rugby players, better disabled access and facilities for nearby schools like St Margaret’s and St Rita’s who use Crosby Park on a regular basis,” Mr Nicholls said.
Brothers Rugby Club President, Geoff Rodgers, welcomed this news and said the LNP’s financial commitment brought the redevelopment project closer to reality.
“We are focused on getting this right, for the club, for our players and spectators and for the local community. We will be taking a sensitive, pragmatic and sequenced approach to redevelopment as part of the broader, integrated plan,” Mr Rodgers said.
He said there was much to do in the next six months in behind-the-scenes organising with regards to finalizing design and plans and other key aspects.
Brothers’ long-term masterplan is expected to be completed over the next four years and follows Brisbane City Council’s confirmation of a 25-year lease to the club in August.
