Tim Nicholls was re-elected as the Member for Clayfield on October 26, this time as part of the governing party as the LNP took out the Queensland election.
Mr Nicholls, who has represented the seat since 2006, said he was very grateful to be re-elected for the seventh time.
“It’s very humbling and hopefully a sign that people are still confident that the LNP and myself will be able to deliver for them in the electorate, which is what I plan to do,” he said.
“Being in government means that we can implement the policies that we took to the election, and significantly, our policies are around dealing with the crime crisis, the health crisis and cost of living.
“Certainly, the crime issue is my number one priority – we will have our making Queensland safer laws into the parliament and passed before the end of this year.”
Recent break-ins and robberies on Racecourse Road in October, including at Dicki’s Ascot, Belle Property, Le Bon Choix, and Hamilton Kebab, have reinforced Mr Nicholls’ campaign platform of addressing crime.
On November 1, it was announced that Mr Nicholls has been appointed as the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services as part of the Crisafulli LNP Government.
Mr Nicholls said he was “deeply honoured” at the appointment and said the LNP has the right plan to heal the crisis.
“Every Queenslander deserves access to a world-class health system, no matter where they live. Our mission is to enhance accessibility to healthcare services where they are needed most,” he said.
“I look forward to working with our frontline workers and healthcare providers.”
Mr Nicholls also reaffirmed his election commitments, including the Gold CityGlider service and funding the next stage of the Brothers Rugby Club redevelopment.
“The Gold CityGlider will be providing a high frequency bus service along KSD into the CBD and then out to Woolloongabba… which many people at Portside, and along Kingsford Smith Drive and in Hamilton have been keen to see happen,” he said.
He also acknowledged his Labor opponent Belle Brookfield for the respectful campaign and wished her the best in her future endeavours.
