Deadpool & Wolverine is a bloody, violent, swear-word filled action return to form from Marvel, that threads a barely-there plot with constant and consistent laugh-out-loud moments. Both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are on form here, and their back-and-forth banter is the highlight of the film.
The movie follows Deadpool as he needs to find a new Wolverine to replace his own world’s one, and stop the Time Variance Authority from destroying his universe. He journeys to another Universe and picks up this Wolverine, but in doing so comes afoul of the telekinetic Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).
The film, directed by Shaun Levy, goes hard on the fan service. There’s a myriad of oft-debated online fights between characters from different universes, and a heap of remarkably big cameos and team-ups.
But above anything else, this movie is funny and a hell of a lot of fun. You’ll be laughing away in your seat throughout, and while there probably isn’t that much plot here to latch on to, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Most importantly, as superhero fatigue undoubtedly has fully set in, this film manages to feel at least a little bit fresh, and a whole lot fun, and that’s something to write home about.
