Thousands of vulnerable people in Brisbane have rediscovered their confidence and found employment thanks to a non-profit in Fortitude Valley that provides styling advice and career support.
Mere Vitale, CEO of Suited to Success, said that their clients come from diverse situations, which include those who have experienced domestic violence, financially insecure people, refugees and people re-entering the workforce.
“Anxiety in finding work can escalate if you don’t feel confident in the clothing you’re wearing…We often take for granted how clothing can have that profound impact on your sense of self and confidence,” Ms Vitale said.
“We had a gentleman in who recently exited a corrections facility… An hour later he was so joyful and said ‘I would have never thought I could wear a suit. I feel like I have some dignity and that I can be respected.’ He didn’t want to take his suit off.”
Suited to Success provides free professional clothing, styling support and personal career counselling to support people throughout Queensland without the means to find employment.
This year the organisation has supported more than 1,500 people in Brisbane and Queensland. They are always in need of professional clothing and volunteers that can help expand their services.
