The Rotary Club of Hamilton has welcomed its new president, Neil Bray, during its annual Changeover Night.
“Being part of a strong and long-established club is a privilege,” Mr Bray said.
Hamilton Rotary aims to strengthen its community impact and attract more young members as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.
On the night, outgoing President Victor Gado officially handed over the leadership, and the club reflected on the past year’s achievements and recognised eight Paul Harris Fellow recipients. Mr Gado continues his involvement on the Board as Immediate Past President.
This year’s Rotary International President’s theme, “create lasting impact”, reflects the club’s goal of delivering impactful community and international projects while welcoming new members.
To create these projects fundraising remains Hamilton Rotary’s first priority, with the annual Craft Beer Festival supporting Peggy’s Place, Brothers Support Network and St Augustine’s Anglican Church. The Craft Beer Festival is being held on 22 August 2026 at St Augustine’s Hamilton. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
The club also plans to distribute 50 shelter bags to people sleeping rough and provide medical and educational support in Fiji.
“Being visible in our local area gives people an insight into the reason why we do [what we do]… not only is it great to engage in community and support local charities… but also to use those funds to carry out impactful overseas projects,” Mr Bray said.
The club has welcomed more young members in recent years, and their active involvement in fundraising such as the Craft Beer Festival has represented an important generational change that was essential to the club’s future.
“We’ll reach out further out into the community to connect with more young people, more new members,” Hamilton Rotary Club Secretary Jenny Richardson said.
