Yellow paint has appeared on Thompson Street in Bowen Hills, removing a legitimate free parking space used by local residents and businesses.
Dean Merlo, owner of the businesses opposite – his flagship Merlo Coffee Torrefazione and Milano Bakery – said he is not happy to see the space removed.
“It is a legitimate car space and has been there for many years.”
He wants to know what the motivation is for removing it, as it impacts his customers.
The Village Voice has been unable to get a response from Brisbane City Council (BCC) that addresses locals’ concerns other than the following textbook response.
A spokesperson for the council said:
“Brisbane is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia and we have to strike a balance between the need for street parking and for people to be able to safely access businesses, particularly in busy commercial areas of our inner city.”
“To do this, our officers assess each driveway application on its merits to determine what is the safest option,” the spokesperson said.
