Vale Glen Kinross AO

Glen Kinross AO, former President of Rotary Club of Hamilton and of Rotary International, passed away in September 2024 at the age of 93.

Born Glennie William Kinross in Brisbane on January 9, 1931, he lived at the family home in Frodsham St, Albion, until he married in 1954.

He and his wife Heather then designed and built their own home at Spence Rd, Wavell Heights.

He attended Eagle Junction State School and Brisbane Grammar School, and in 1946 entered the family company, Kinross Furniture.

Mr Kinross eventually became joint proprietor and chairman of directors of John Kinross and Co.

His honest and fair business philosophy transcended to his service as a Rotarian.

In 1960, at age 29, Mr Kinross was inducted into the Rotary Club of Hamilton and has remained a longstanding and cherished member.

As well as serving in every position at Rotary Club of Hamilton including President in 1965/66, Mr Kinross served as District Governor in 1973/74 and then President of Rotary International in 1997/98.

For his outstanding service, he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in 1975/76, considered by many to be the highest recognition in Rotary.

In 1998 he was awarded an AO, Officer of the Order of Australia for his community service and contributions to international relations.

Mr Kinross had four children with his wife of 44 years, Heather (dec. 1998): Glen, Helen, Julie and Malcolm; and five granddaughters: Lucy, Emily, Kate, Mary and Eliza. In later years he married Ruth, and they lived together in Newstead.
