There was something exuberant in the air at The West End Electric on a steamy summer evening in January. Specifically, bubbles, feathers, champagne, and not to mention trapeze artists.
Blanc de Blanc Encore by Strut n Fret threw everything at us for their homecoming in January – a balls out performance (you’ll have to catch a show to fully understand what I mean here…) that had the audience alternating between awe and in stitches.
While the charismatic and multitalented ‘French’ hosts Felix Pouliot and Remi Martin kept us in laughs, the alluring Sasha-Lee Saunders enchanted us with her song and Jess Mews hooked us with her hula-hooping.
Tongue-in-cheek burlesque, variety performances and ‘bone breaking’ contortionist hip hop from Mykhailo Makarov brought the audience a surprise in every scene change.
Acrobatic feats abounded, as the performers bounded from one side of the room to the other, vaulting over the audience with dizzying ease.
If you were lucky, the audience participation involved a performer suspended above you, filling your glass from a dangling champagne bottle, and if you were even luckier (depending on your perspective) you got to join in the raunchy fun onstage.
For a taste of the sophistication and the abandon of a French lounge-turned nightclub, Blanc de Blanc Encore makes the perfect night out for the hedonists among us.
