Jake Wyllie will go toe-to-toe with Youssef Dib in August

Local boxer Jake “The Machine” Wyllie is set to headline an event in August after impressing the boxing world with his recent performance against George Kambosos Jr.

“There’s big things on the horizon”, Wyllie said.

“It’s a huge one for [Fortitude Boxing gym] and for the people that have been around for the last 40 years, so to headline that and to be here for the best part of three years is a real privilege for me.”

Wyllie praised the strong sense of camaraderie at the gym and hopes to give back to the community during the 40-year celebration event.

“There’s no egos here, everyone gets along and it’s a great place to be around,” he said.

“Boxing can get a bad rap with all the trash talking that goes on, but here in Fortitude, we’re all level-headed.”

Wyllie prefers to let his hands do the talking in the ring.

“Anyone that knows me well, knows I don’t trash talk, I’ll call it for what it is”, he said.

Australia’s Super Lightweight Champion boasts a series of wins by knockout with a 17-2 record, but his greatest feat to date came against former world champion George Kambosos Jr in Sydney.

Wyllie accepted the “opportunity of a lifetime” to replace Daud Yordan who withdrew only three days before the Kambosos vs Yordan clash, which Wyllie had initially planned to spectate.

While Wyllie ultimately lost by judges’ decision, his manager Steve Deller believes his impressive performance fast-tracked his career to the international stage.

“I am currently in talks with world famous promoter Eddie Hearn regarding Jake fighting in England and Wembley Stadium in November,” Deller said.

Deller expects the August 23rd fight against Youssef Dib, held at Fortitude Music Hall, to be the biggest Australian fight in 2025.

“I have every faith in the world that Jake will be fighting for a world title, if not winning one,” head coach Luke Meldon said.

“He’s a really humble, down-to-Earth kid and the hardest worker in the room.

“He deserves every bit of his success.”

“This will be a massive night, and I encourage anyone in the community that’s looking for a good night out to come and support,” Wyllie said.
