Carroll’s Corner celebrates centenary in Valley

Historian Robert Allen and Carrol's Corner building owner Arthur Apostolos

California Lane welcomed young and old to their ‘100 Years, 100 Stories’ community day, on November 22, celebrating the Carroll’s Corner and Rollinson Buildings turning one hundred.

Historian Robert Allen, President of the New Farm & Districts Historical Society, conducted walking tours of the block.

Other notable buildings with history included the Empire Hotel, Royal George Hotel, Sun Apartments (formerly housing the Truth, then the Sun newspaper offices), Bulolo flats, and the Talentpath office (formerly the Hacienda Hotel and Siesta Bar, then Dooley’s Hotel).

Live entertainment such as painting by David Hinchliffe, swing dancing and music, as well as a nostalgia-filled record fair, photographic displays and the opportunity to dine and sip at the venues which now occupy the buildings, completed the day.
