St Agatha’s Primary School in Clayfield, now celebrating 100 years, is beloved by its close community of students, families and teachers.
Principal Anne-Marie Maw said it is an honour to be able to commemorate such a milestone.
“This is my first principalship here at St Agatha’s, so being able to have my first school as principal leading in its 100th year, you don’t get those opportunities very often,” Ms Maw said.
The school has a number of staff who were once students, including Pia Turpin, who attended the school and returned as a graduate teacher.
“It was a full circle moment for her,” Ms Maw said, reflecting on the special place the school holds in the hearts of those connected with St Agatha’s.
“It’s always been a strong community, and I think it’s because of the generations that come through.
“We have a really nice connection with the parish as well, so a lot of the families get married at St Agatha’s, their babies will be baptised there and then they’ll bring them to school here,” she said.
The school marked their centenary on October 24 with family and alumni invited to enjoy refreshments and a performing arts showcase.
The morning of music, poetry and theatre from their talented students was made possible by their wonderful teachers Kate Llewellyn and Katrina Olley.
