Brisbane Fashion Festival will this year open with a runway on the brand new Kangaroo Point Bridge, while arts collaborations will include a Dangerous Liaisons- inspired gastronomic event at Layla Restaurant, themed to Queensland Ballet’s upcoming production.
Returning to King George Square in the heart of The City from August 24 to 29 as the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary, this year’s program features more than 50 designers.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the event had become a cornerstone of Brisbane’s cultural identity and a powerful showcase for Australian fashion.
“I know how important this festival is in terms of helping local designers launch their careers and boosting Brisbane’s profile as a drawcard for the fashion industry globally,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Importantly, one dollar from every ticket sold will go straight to the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust to help frontline charities support some of Brisbane’s most vulnerable residents,” he said.
A Resort Show will open this year’s runway program on Kangaroo Point Bridge on August 24 at 10.30am. The parade will feature resort collections, including Pamela Easton, Camargue, along with Australian designer brands from Queens Plaza and more.
At the Museum of Brisbane, the iconic design duo, Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson, will reflect on their extraordinary partnership and offer rare insights into their design process in an intimate and exclusive Q&A on August 25.
Supporting emerging artists, the Hancock Prospecting Next Gen Group Show will open with a fashion design competition on August 27, with finalists from TAFE Queensland Brisbane, QUT Fashion and Whitehouse Institute of Design, re-imagining the classic Driza-Bone trench.
Festival Director Lindsay Bennett said: “We will once again bring fashion fans Live Streams of every runway show, allowing them to relive the show and catch all the fashion action from the shows they missed.”
The Designer Group Show on August 28 features a retrospective showcase of 2006 designs, as well as new-season collections. After that, ticketholders are invited to the Hyatt Regency Brisbane Official Wrap Party.
In the last day, the festival partners with Beyond DV once again to support Dress to Express Day at 4pm. Wear your most fabulous outfit and walk in solidarity with domestic violence survivors.
From 5.30pm to 8pm, you are invited to join the evening cocktail party at the Hyatt Regency. All money raised will support Beyond DV’s recovery programs for families impacted by domestic and family violence.
The full program is available at brisbanefashionfestival.com, with tickets on sale from June 2 and priced from $60.
