Behind Village Voice Paw-ty in the Park this August 26 is a story of how local businesses have come together over a love of community and some furry friends.
Event organiser and founder of Enriching Communities Ms Guastini said local businesses have been enthusiastic to support the paw-ty such as sponsor, Bank of Queensland New Farm.
Cameron Campbell is Business Development Manager at Enclave in Newstead, and said they are a very dog-friendly office, with the dogs of both staff and clients often coming to visit.
Ms Guastini and Mr Campbell both spend a lot of time at the Newstead Dog Park and said they have noticed dogs brightening the day of not just their owners but other locals who come to spend time with the dogs.
Enclave will be donating a prize gifting one lucky dog their own little pooch apartment to go in their owner’s apartment or house.
The idea to create a dog park came from Newstead author Lyndal Clark, who wanted a local spot for people to take their dogs.
Ms Guastini said the event has been built from the idea to host a book launch for Ms Clark’s book Muffin: The Gumtree Girl Who Rescued Me into a celebration of what she achieved by creating the dog park.
The event is supporting Pets in the Park Brisbane, a charity based in Spring Hill that helps homeless or disadvantaged people to care for their pets by providing free healthcare programs.
There will be plenty of activities, products and competitions for your dog, from dog food tasting to a dog agility course.
For the humans, live music, food trucks and drinks will keep everyone entertained.
Newstead Vets, who are celebrating their second year in August, will be part of a range of educational opportunities including Animal Emergency Centre, Leave It coaching, Brisbane City Council animal management, and Griffith University.
Owner & Veterinary Director of Newstead Vets Thiago Giraldi said they will be offering free health checks on the day and will be available to answer questions about pet health.
Mr Giraldi said: “I think it’s a really good opportunity to be involved with the community because they are a big part of the clinic.”
“It’s a great chance to show our faces in the dog park and get to talk to people outside the clinic.”
He estimated that about 70% of his patients are dogs.
