A new train interchange is planned for Albion alongside a mixed-use precinct with up to 1200 new residences.
The Queensland Government will deliver the interchange combined with a significant Transit Orientated Development, the ‘Albion Exchange’ to be delivered by Geon Property.
The precinct will have residential, commercial, retail, lifestyle, and entertainment spaces.
The Albion interchange will create a single rail transfer point for passengers travelling to and from the Northern suburbs after the Cross River Rail opens.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish said: “Albion station has been identified as the best location for this interchange due to its proximity to the city as well as the land available for use around the precinct.”
Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls said it is time for tenders, not renders.
Mr Nicholls said, “Labor Governments have announced upgrades for Albion Station five times”, and they are “resorting to reannouncing projects they’ve got no commitment to deliver”.
Preliminary designs for the station feature four new raised, wider platforms and safety and accessibility upgrades.
Public information sessions will be held September 4 – 16.
Contract award is expected in mid-2025.
