The former site designated for the Olympic Athletes Village at Hamilton Northshore in Brisbane will be sold off by the Queensland Government.
The site is part of six hectares of riverfront land at 60–102 MacArthur Avenue to be sold in the Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area (PDA), which the government has earmarked for fast-tracked urban renewal.
The government intends for the land to be sold to developers to build 3,000 homes as well as restaurants, bars and retail.
Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls said the development would revitalise the area.
“Transforming Northshore Hamilton will deliver more homes, more infrastructure, more investment and more jobs in the area,” he said.
Economic Development Queensland, the government agency which oversees the PDA, stated on its website that it is “delivering enabling infrastructure for the sites by early to mid-2028, with riverfront parklands to follow in 2029”.
The decision is part of the government’s newly announced Land Activation Program, which does not mandate affordable and social housing as part of the policy.
Prospective buyers for the Northshore Hamilton land will submit their proposals by mid-April.
