Following the federal election this month, the new and old Member for Brisbane have shared their message for voters.
Newly-elected Labor member Madonna Jarrett has promised to bring the same energy to her role as she did to her campaign.
“I feel humbled to be representing our community in Canberra and excited to start getting to work. We went to the election with a strong commitment on affordable healthcare, cost of living relief, housing and renewables and I can’t wait to be a part of the government that is implementing these important reforms,” Ms Jarrett said.
“This election was a clear rejection of Peter Dutton, his nuclear plan and his divisive polarising politics. Our plan spoke to issues that were important to our community giving them something to vote for.
“During our campaign, my philosophy was to leave no stone unturned and I intend to continue bringing that energy and commitment to make a real difference for our community,” she said.

Former Member for Brisbane Stephen Bates insisted he will continue working to improve people’s lives even without his ministerial position.
“I’m proudest about being able to have touched so many thousand lives in the work my team and I did. It’s an honour that basically no other job gives you. It’s intimate and special and something you can’t even explain until you’ve experienced it.
“I’m not going anywhere and I’m not going to stop helping people just because I’m not their MP anymore.
“I’ll be here and working every day doing the same things I did as your MP — making sure everyone can get the services and support they need to live a good life and standing up for Brisbane to build the city we all deserve together,” he said.
