A window into the past has been opened in Teneriffe with the installation of a mural to pay tribute to the suburb’s wool-shipping history, the legacy project of the Teneriffe Progress Association (TPA).
TPA President Ben Pritchard said: “This would have been a loading dock back in the day, so what I wanted to do was recreate the image of what you would have actually seen as you drove down this street in days of old.”
“It would have been a man positioning these wool bales ready to put on a truck taking them to the ship, and then it would have been sailing away to the other side of the world.”
The mural on Florence St was painted by Clayfield artist duo MCRT.Studio.
The TPA, founded in 2011, has finally decided its work is done after 15 years of shaping Teneriffe’s development.
“We have… retained and enhanced the characteristics which I think make it one of the most liveable and desirable suburbs in Brisbane,” Mr Pritchard said.
“I think we have enough heritage to make a good foundation, and as long as we continue to respect the history and keep a careful eye on the future, then the area has got plenty to offer and it is in safe hands,” he said.
