Kris Stewart has stepped down from his role as CEO of QMusic, leaving a legacy of supporting local music he can be proud of.
Stewart said after five years, he thought it was time to move on, although the day came quicker than he expected.
“It’s my time now,” he said.
He said he is proud of the legacy he is leaving behind, including helping set up the Night-Life Economy Commissioner role with John “JC” Collins.
Stewart said some of the highlights of his time at the industry association are five years of surpluses in a row at QMusic, establishing solid state and federal funding through to 2030, not to mention the comeback success of the annual Bigsound event after cancellations during Covid.
“This year’s Bigsound has been the best ever.”
Another important project he worked on was setting up a regional office, noting they are very keen to get involved in the Gold Coast as a new growth area for the music industry.
Stewart said he has had a close relationship with the QMusic team.
“It’s been friendly and we’re good mates,” he said.
Stewart will be taking a break before setting out on his next endeavour.
