Fortitude Valley’s vibrant live music heritage will be celebrated with a feast for the ears on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Organised by California Lane’s Arthur Apostolos and Glitter Records owner Riley Fitzgerald, the event will feature a Record and CD market, music history tours and an expert panel discussing the rise of the local punk, protest, gay, grunge and indie music scenes.

Radio station and long time valley tenant 4ZZZ – which recently celebrated its 50th birthday – will also be involved.
Mr Apostolos said the day’s focus will be on the Valley’s live music acts, venues and stories from the 1970s until now.
“The valley is one of Australia’s best live entertainment precincts,” Mr Apostolos said.
“This didn’t happen by accident and we want to explore and celebrate how this has come about.”
Often regarded as having one of the highest concentrations of live music venues in Australia, the valley has drawn acts and audiences for decades and hosts annual music events such as Bigsound and the Valley Fiesta.

Many new and emerging artists – from the Go-Betweens to Powderfinger to Thelma Plum – rehearsed and performed in the Valley and the mall features a Walk of Fame celebrating Queensland music icons.
Historian Robert Allen said the Valley music history tour will examine the emergence and growth of the valley as a magnet for music acts, bands and crowds against a backdrop of enormous political, social and urban change.
“The tour will include current live venues such as Crowbar and the Fortitude Music Hall and celebrate past iconic venues such as the Hacienda / Dooleys, The Roxy and The Zoo.
“The valley has long attracted people looking to experience something different beyond the mainstream. This was the case in the 1970s and ‘80s and it’s still true today.”

Mr Allen said event organisers are keen to gather further stories and examples of band, gig and venue memorabilia that can be showcased on the day. These can be sent to [email protected].
