Joe was an impressive and inspiring young man. From the moment he was born on 22 June 2000 Joe lit up the world with his beautiful smile and brought such a positive energy everywhere he went. He achieved so much and made such an impact on everyone he met in his 25 years.
Joe was born in Brisbane and lived most of his life in New Farm, Teneriffe and Newstead and loved being part of this community.
Joe attended primary school at Holy Spirit school New Farm and then went to St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace. He valued the education he was so privileged to have at Terrace and excelled academically and worked hard to achieve an OP1. He made some wonderful lifelong friends and became an amazing and inspiring leader, mentor and role model to many young men. They loved him and his caring beautiful nature.
Joe was given the honour of being Treacy House Captain in his senior year and was a natural in that leadership role and how he could serve and support other boys. He was a true Terrace Gentleman.
Joe was a student at The University of Qld and was studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Nutrition. He was passionate about health and wellness.
Joe was a very loving, kind and generous young man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved and adored him.
Joe was an intelligent, kind, compassionate, selfless, and always so willing to help others. Joe was hard-working, honest and committed to whatever he put his mind to. He was a happy, positive person who other people loved to have around.
One of Joe’s true passions was to travel to new places and discover new things. He took the opportunity to travel the world and visited 30 countries across Europe, Asia, South Pacific and NZ.
Another one of Joe’s passions was running. He ran a few marathons and would often be seen running in New Farm Park or along the Brisbane River in New Farm, Teneriffe or Newstead.
Joe also combined his passion for travel with his academic pursuits including a University of Queensland engineering study tour to China in 2019 and an overseas university exchange to Lund University in Sweden in 2020.
Joe fought anorexia for a long part of his life and sadly recently lost his battle with this insidious and hideous disease. He was destined to achieve many more great things, and his ambition was to recover and help many other people just like him, particularly males, suffering with eating disorders.
Joe’s wish is for no other guy to suffer from the pain that anorexia caused him. If his story can save the life of just one other guy, then his wish is fulfilled. For this reason, his parents have requested donations to be made to the Butterfly Foundation, so that they can continue to provide their treatment and support programs helping others fight eating disorders.
Joe wanted to raise awareness about eating disorders especially in young men who are often suffering in silence.
In Joe’s words “Let’s talk and start a conversation”.
