Dancing CEOs’ country-rock mashup to support DV survivors

Lisa Carter and Kate Greaves will dance a country-rock hoedown on May 30

Two female CEOs who describe themselves as “friendly competitors” in the insurance business will put on their dancing shoes to support domestic violence (DV) survivors in May.

Lisa Carter, CEO of Clear Insurance in Ascot, will take to the stage alongside Kate Greaves, CEO of Goldsworthy General Insurance in Upper Mount Gravatt, in support of Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ).

“We’ve both got clients who’ve needed this support over the years and it’s nice to be able to give back to a charity where you know the money’s actually going to help families in need,” Ms Greaves said.

While they share a passion for leading their insurance businesses, their musical taste is very different.

Ms Greaves is a country music lover while Ms Carter loves rock and roll – combination that will no doubt lead to a memorable performance.

They said it will be a “country-rock mashup with an insurance flavour”.

Lisa Carter, CEO of Clear Insurance in Ascot, has a personal reason for taking part this year, having experienced violence in her own family as a child.

“…That’s just not something that an eight-year-old child should ever have to watch,” she said.

“I felt that impact myself, so if I can dance on a stage to help another eight-year-old girl not have to witness something like that, then that’s the least I can do.

“It’s all about breaking the cycles… to really help change happen.”

Ms Carter said it is wonderful to see what WLSQ can do compared to the limited support available for her mother at the time.

For many, January signals an opportunity for a fresh start, but at WLSQ, their mission to provide a safe future for those who reach out to them is slowed by a backlog of women seeking help after the holiday season.

Last year, WLSQ CEO Nadia Bromley said the first day they opened their service in January 2025, they received 424 calls for help but could answer less than a quarter of them on the same day.

Ms Carter and Ms Greaves have several fundraising events planned in the leadup to the dance-off, including Clearfest, a family music festival on Racecourse Road with local bands; a rugby-themed lunch at Carina Leagues Club; and a High Tea at Tattersall’s Club in partnership with Shweta Khan from Starfire Diamonds Bulimba, with guest speaker Simone O’Brien sharing her DV experience.

They have created a “dance card” for sponsors of their Dancing CEOS performance and are also on the lookout for sponsors and businesses who can donate auction and raffle prizes for the high tea.

Dancing CEOs has set their fundraising goal at $500,000, but Ms Greaves and Ms Carter are aiming to get them over $1 million.
